The county has finally come out with their Draft EIR Hoop Structures Ordinance Amendment. You can read the 385 page document by following this link http://longrange.sbcountyplanning.org/programs/Hoop%20Structures/Hoops.php. As they point out in the report, currently we see mostly raspberry, blackberry and some strawberry plantings in hoop houses as these temporary structures extend the growing season for certain crops. Seems harmless enough and as a supporter of farmers producing food, I'm 100% supportive. I'm only sorry putting up hoop houses will now require a permit and be harder to do for farmers who already have a million "hoops" to jump through just to grow food for us. As the report also points out, the hoop houses can also be used for growing cannabis. Hoop houses are here to stay which is a bummer for those out there that object to them and a good thing for those in the agricultural community who depend on them for their livelihood.
